Kids Moong & Rice Khichdi with potatoes

Hello parents, I have not been posting any recipe lately as I was unwell but here we go again for some yummy recipes for kids and parents. This is one of my favorite comfort food. Parents will also love it. My daughter is very fond of this one as I put a little spices for her developing taste buds.

I used moong dal, I do not know if many of you are used to cook this dal. You will see a photo of the dal below and it is easily available in supermarkets.

Let’s see the step by step pictures of the recipe. I am very sorry about the quality if the photos as I cooked late at night and no good light for photos. Still I wanted to share the step by step pictures.

  1. This is how the green split moong dal looks like.
  2. Prepare the dal by washing several times and allow to soak for 30 mins together with the rice for faster cooking. Cut the potatoes in chunks.
  3. Put in pressure cooker with sufficient water and allow to whistle 3-4 times.
  4. In a small pan or tadka pan, put some oil and add the cumin seeds and the cardamom pods. The cumin seeds will start popping.
  5. Add the chopped onions, ginger garlic paste and the cut tomato. Allow the different ingredients to cook and get all the lovely flavors together.
  6. Mix the onion/tomato paste to the cooked dal and rice. Combine both.
  7. Your Khichdi is ready! 🙂
