Kids Dal Pita & Chouchou

I love those one meal in one pot recipes. Today we are going to do simple dal pita with chouchou (chayote) for your kid. Dal pita is a dal dish with pieces of flour dough in it. Usually people make it from scratch like a roti cut in small pieces and put in the dal. This is so yummy and a complete meal.

Always running after time, I found this alternative that can work really well if you are in a hurry and also making small quantities for kids. I bought those ready made dal pita that comes in a packet like pasta. You can cook them exactly the same – I think the one I use instructed to cook for 8 minutes.

  1. Prepare your dal and cut the chouchoy (chayote) in pieces. Do not worry about the size of the pieces as they will desolve in the dal.
  2. In a blender, mix tomato, onion, ginger garlic and coriander leaves.
  3. This is how the tomato mixture will look like.
  4. This is the readymade dalpita that I used.
  5. In a pressure cooker, pressure cook the dal with the chouchou with some salt and tumeric powder.
  6. In a pan, cook the tomato mixture with a little oil.
  7. One the mixture is cooked, add the already boiled dal with the chouchou.
  8. Let boil for some minutes. Add the readymade dal pita and cook for recommended time indicated on the packet. READY!! Complete meal in one pot.
