As a kid and even now, I find that drinking basil seeds is very fun. These seeds are also known as tookmaria in Mauritius and those who grew up on the island must surely all be fan of Alouda which is a milk drink with sweet basil seeds. Quite a traditional drink and also popular to drink in the Port Louis Central Market.
It is absolutely yummy, maybe next time I will do a post on alouda drink 🙂
So coming back to my childhood memories, I used to take a spoon and catch one by one seed and burst it between my teeth. I have to admit that I used to do the same thing while studying at university. It was destressing me while studying.
Well now let’s tackle kid’s little snack. Today I have used the basil seeds for a pudding type with mangoes 🙂

- Prepare all your ingredients.
- Soak the basil seeds in water for 30mins or more. It will not affect the expansion of the seeds. Just make sure there is enough water.
- Prepare the mangoes for blending.
- Blend the mangoes.
- Prepare milk before serving, add 1 tsp of soaked and then garnish with the mangoes. Baby will love the milk and mango taste together.
Eating too many seeds at once may cause constipation, so it is important to drink adequate water.
Always consult your pediatrician before giving new ingredient to your baby.
Baby will love the milk and mango taste together…HEAVENLY!!
