Puree Sweet Potato [Batat-dous]
Today we are not doing gato-batat but puree for baby 🙂
All you need is some sweet potatoes… this is a super popular food for babies as they find it sweet and it has a good consistency keeping baby going. After you have tested that the vegetable suit your baby, you can start giving it at night and baby will have a good night sleep with a full stomach. It’s a very interesting vegetable as you can mix it with anything and baby shall like.
There are different ways to prepare the sweet potato. In this recipe, I have baked it:
BAKING TECHNIQUE
Step 1: Wash the sweet potato and rub it with a small brush to remove the soil
Step 2: Bake it in the oven for 30 mins at 200degrees with the peel still on
Step 3: Once the sweet potato is cooked, remove the peel
Step 4: Blend with some water or milk to give it a richer taste.

COOKING TECHNIQUE
You can simply cut the sweet potato in small pieces and cook it with some water on slow flame for 15-20 mins. Once it’s tender, you can blend the sweet potato in desired texture.
STEAM TECHNIQUE
This one is the easiest for me, you cut the sweet potato in small pieces and steam it for 30 mins. Once it’s tender, you can blend the sweet potato in desired texture.
For additional twist, you can add cinnamon powder or some fresh thyme to the puree. Make things interesting for your baby with different tastes.
What can you mix with sweet potato?
- Carrots
- Apple & Pear (even if I’m not a big fan of mixing vegetable and fruit but babies love the combination)
- Rice
- Green beans
- Lentils
- Zucchini
